چکیده

The experimental study presented in this paper aimed to examine the performance of cold-formed steel built-up section beam-columns experiencing non-uniform bending. test program was performed on open and closed sections that were manufactured from grades G500 G550 zinc-coated sheets. specimens assembled by connecting two identical channels with discrete connectors along longitudinal direction. Two member lengths plate thicknesses considered for investigate stability newly designed thin-walled beam-columns. In total, thirty-five beam-column tests carried out under pinned supports. results including loading capacity, failure mode axial load-lateral deflection response obtained are fully reported paper. Moreover, comparison capacities nominal strengths conducted evaluate applicability interaction curves specified North American Specification AISI S100, Australian/New Zealand Standard AS/NZS 4600, European Code EN 1993–1-1 ANSI/AISC 360 bending compression resistances calculated direct strength method members moment gradients. Overall, these design methods conservative predictions unequal end moments. For synchronous compression, aforementioned generally offered slightly predictions, except interactive formula determined method.

Performance of Stiffened Slender Built up Steel I-Columns

Abstract—The present work illustrates a parametric study for the effect of stiffeners on the performance of slender built up steel Icolumns. To achieve the desired analysis, finite element technique is used to develop nonlinear three-dimensional models representing the investigated columns. The finite element program (ANSYS 13.0) is used as a calculation tool for the necessary nonlinear analysi...

On Cold-Formed Steel Construction

Powder-actuated (also referred to as low velocity or powder-driven) fasteners are commonly used to attach cold-formed steel framing members, usually a track, to a concrete or structural steel support. Although commonly used, their behavior is less well understood than other fasteners such as screws, bolts and welds. The AISI Cold-Formed Steel Design Manual does not explicitly address powder act...

Experimental Investigation on Cold-formed Steel Wall Plate System

A series of tests on cold-formed steel (CFS) wall plate system subjected to uplift force at the mid span of the wall plate is presented. The aim of the study was to study the behaviour and identify the modes of failure of CFS wall plate system. Two parameters were considered in these studies: 1) different dimension of U-bracket at the supports and 2) different sizes of lipped Cchannel. The lipp...

Review on Cold-Formed Steel Connections

The concept of cold-formed light steel framing construction has been widespread after understanding its structural characteristics with massive research works over the years. Connection serves as one of the important elements for light steel framing in order to achieve its structural stability. Compared to hot-rolled steel sections, cold-formed steel connections perform dissimilarity due to the...

PREDICTION OF BIAXIAL BENDING BEHAVIOR OF STEEL-CONCRETE COMPOSITE BEAM-COLUMNS BY ARTIFICIAL NEURAL NETWORK

In this study, the complex behavior of steel encased reinforced concrete (SRC) composite beam–columns in biaxial bending is predicted by multilayer perceptron neural network. For this purpose, the previously proposed nonlinear analysis model, mixed beam-column formulation, is verified with biaxial bending test results. Then a large set of benchmark frames is provided and P-Mx-My triaxial ...
